While a ton of spring breakers fast before spring’s most anticipated week to show off their best beach bod (or beer bellies), some of us are still trying to nail down our plans that marry both adventure and the fun. Instead of continuing the unhealthy intake, why not switch it up from the normal spring break traditions (beer chugging contests on the beach) for a more peaceful time with nature.

One alternative is the Dominican Republic, a relaxing, cultural gem in the heart of the Caribbean. Although most of your friends will use the acronym DR for “don’t remember” this break at all, the DR is a top tourism destination for over 4.6 million tourists every year. With over 100 resorts across the island, enabling all travelers to find one that ideally suites them, the DR is among the hottest spots to book your spring break. The island itself is even more naturally impressive as are its man-made resorts. Across five mountain ranges, which covers 80% of the DR and several national parks, hiking and adventuring is popular among tourists who find the island intriguing for exploration.

Brooding with history and many opportunities to expand your horizons, taking an alternative spring break in the DR to culture yourself and take in the perfect combinations of flowing waterfalls and breathtaking views seems priceless. Below are a few trails to hit during your time away!
