Frost bite, blizzards and icy roads – or warm sand, azure waters and sunshine? The bitter winter is well underway, and one cannot help but dream of a sunnier, warmer escape. The Caribbean is one of the world’s best area for tropical beaches – which makes it the perfect getaway. Below are five Caribbean beaches that are absolutely worth a visit.

1. Pink Sands Beach, Harbour Island, Bahamas
Pink sand exists? Well, not quite, but the sand at Harbour Island’s famous Pink Sand Beach is certainly tinted pink from all the broken coral pieces and shells that had pink and red hues from the surrounding coral reefs. However, this beach is colorful in other ways including its calm turquoise waters that are perfect for swimming, and its vibrant orange and red sunsets that you can enjoy while eating a delicious seafood dinner. Harbour Island is a quieter getaway in the busy tourist centers of the Bahamas, so don’t forget to check out this unique spot on the popular island.

2. Varadero, Cuba
Many proclaim Varadero as one of Cuba’s most beautiful beaches, and that alone should be enough of a reason for you to visit it. Not only will you have Instagram-worthy snapshots, but there is also something magical about witnessing a truly magnificent piece of nature. 3. Saint Kitts and Nevis
As the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere at only 101-square miles, Saint Kitts and Nevis is a great Caribbean destination if you want to explore many beaches all in a compact area. Saint Kitts and Nevis are actually two separate islands, but come together as a dual nation. Surrounded by so much crystal blue waters is an ocean-lover’s dream – it’s no wonder that sailing, cruising and yachting are favorite pastimes of vacationers here. But, don’t let the beautiful waters distract you from another extraordinary sight: the dormant Mount Liamiuga volcano and the surrounding lush mountains shrouded by misty clouds. The breathtaking views on these islands are ethereal and plentiful.

4. Ambergris Caye, Belize
If the name does not already intrigue you, then all of the fun activities available at Ambergris Caye in Belize should. This beach is known for its water sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling and diving off of scenic sites. A popular site for water sports and swimming is the Great Blue Hole – a 145-meter deep and dark blue sinkhole that is almost perfectly circular in a sea of turquoise. Other popular sites include coral reefs, such as the Belize Barrier Reef and the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Beach-goers who are also passionate about marine biology will be enchanted by the abundance of sea life in these waters.

5. Tulum Beach, Mexico
Tulum Beach is located on the eastern side of Mexico, close to the Caribbean island Cozumel. It’s full of history, and that makes it one of the more interesting beaches to visit. Right on the sand are ancient Mayan ruins that will make your tropical getaway a unique history lesson as well. “Tulum” means “wall” in the Yucatec language, which explains the vast structures guarding the ruined city from the sea left behind from as early as 564 A.D. This vacation is perfect for history lovers who want a fascinating but relaxing getaway.
