The Mediterranean island of Ibiza is part of Spain’s Balearic Islands. Some of the other main islands making up the Balearic Islands include Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. Ibiza is a popular vacation destination for travelers looking for a fun island getaway. The island is also one of Spain’s 45-UNESCO World Heritage Sites because of its marine life, architecture and history.

One of the many popular sites to see in Ibiza is the Es Vedra Island. The island is an uninhabited rock formation standing roughly 400-meters tall. Es Vedra comes with a stunning view as well as numerous myths and legends. For starters, the minerals making up the rock island create an extremely high magnetic field. This often causes navigational equipment to malfunction. Some say it is also the tip of Atlantis, the birthplace of Phoenician gods or aided in building the Egyptian pyramids. Whether you are there to experience something mystical, enjoy a nice boat tour or meditate looking at nature’s wonders, Es Vedra is a beautiful stop to make.

Many of Ibiza’s visitors also enjoy taking a walk up to visit the Almudaina Castle. This renaissance-style fortress overlooks Dalt Vila and once served as the Moorish military headquarters. The whole area is now also an outdoor museum that guides visitors through its history. Once you’re done with the walking tour you can also visit the cathedral. Catedral de Ibiza was the first cathedral built on the island in August 1235.  and still holds mass today. Aside from gorgeous architecture, the cathedral also has beautiful and historic works of art on display.

Across the island lies the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany, the second most populated city in Ibiza. Sant Antoni offers visitors gorgeous beaches with clear waters and a great nightlife. At the beach you can relax on the sand, go for a swim or go scuba diving to explore the coves. The downtown streets in this area are filled with restaurants and bars with a great view. One of the most famous of these stops is the Café del Mar. Since 1980 this restaurant has offered some of the most beautiful ocean sunsets accompanied with live music and DJs.

If you’ve ever dreamed of riding horseback on the beach, check out the Ibiza Horse Valley on the northern part of the island. The horseback riding opportunities range from beginners to more advanced. The tours can go from two-hour rides to two-day treks or more. The paths also range from sandy beaches to lush mountains. The Horse Valley also has a rescue program that saves horses from abuse and neglect and rehabilitates them. The tours are offered in multiple languages and each starts out with learning how to care for the horses before riding.
