Travel Profile: FREIA

Her wish is to inspire people to be strong and independent as well as delicate and sensitive, proving that confidence and emotions go hand-in-hand beautifully. Freia is now 22. Watch out for her debut album, which she has almost solely written the lyrics and the music for (with help from her alter ego Quba) is scheduled for release in 2017.

SunCity Paradise: Describe your home country a bit. What’s one aspect that really stands out to you and makes it special? Also, what’s one sight you would suggest a first-time visitor to see?
FREIA: [Romania] is a very beautiful, with breathtaking landscapes — from the seaside to the mountains, and the country-side to the big cities; it has unique, eternal traditions and it’s full of artists and art. A first-time visitor should probably come in spring or summer and visit the Transfagarasan Highway.
SCP: What peaked your initial interest in music? Did you know early on or did it evolve over time?
F: I was always singing as a child and my mom used to tell me that I inherit my grandmother’s voice. I remember that I first sang ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion at the celebration of the end of my first grade — from then I knew that music is what I want to do all my life.
SCP: Did the allure of travel help motivate you to pursue a career in music? Why?
F: I spent my childhood bouncing between the underground vibes of numerous capital cities and the boho vibes of the countryside. I grew with that “wild” and “free” spirit and that definitely influenced me and, now, my music. I don’t know if traveling motivated me to pursue a career in music, because I wished for that since I was very young, but traveling definitely inspired me the most.
SCP: What do the coming months have in store for your music career?
F: I worked really hard in 2016 to finish my first album and now that it’s done. I dream that this whole year will be amazing for my career.
SCP: When searching for a personal getaway, are you looking for a serene beach or after a more active, adventurous getaway?
F: I love a getaway which has both peace and adventure. But, if I had to choose, I’d probably choose the serene beach, because I love relaxing in the sun, hearing the waves. It’s one of my favorite feelings.
SCP: One of our core objectives at SCP is to bring people together while traveling, not only to influence people to see and appreciate our beautiful world, but to also minimize cross-cultural divides. What effect does traveling have on humans in this regard? How has it broadened your perspective of the world?
F: When I travel I love to meet new people and get to learn random stuff about different cultures. For me, it’s fascinating to see how different we all are, and how our cultural background influences us. If we’re open to see and learn about other cultures, we get to evolve and be a part of the whole world, not just of your own culture.

SCP: Everyone has a list of places that they still have to hit. What are three destinations that you still need to see? Why?
F: I have a huge list of places that I have to hit, but the top three are Bora Bora — I adore exotic places. This island is like a fantasy. Los Angeles, USA — it’s awesome. And, Japan — it has a totally different culture, and I would really love to feel its vibe.
SCP: Most destinations have a festival that they’re known for, whether it’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Oktoberfest in Munich. Which one would you choose to attend? Why?
F: I would love to attend Coachella.
SCP: When you’re relaxing on a beach or just have some downtime what are you listening to?
F: I’m always listening to the nature.
SCP: Lastly, when’s the next vacation and where to?
F: I don’t know when or where my next vacation will be, but I’m hoping for a wild and exotic place.
