Home to many of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in the world is the amazing state of Colorado. Whether you’re interested in hiking, skiing, snowboarding, fishing or even just taking long relaxing walks, Colorado’s mountain ranges have beautiful adventures in store for everyone who visits. The following ranges are just a few of the top landscapes that all nature lovers just have to see to believe.
1. Sawatch Range
With the Ute translation of “green-blue waters of earth,” the Sawatch Range is one of the narrower Colorado landscapes, located in the Rocky Mountains. This particular range is known for featuring some of the highest mountain peaks in the country, including Colorado’s own highest peak Mt. Elbert. This particular range is filled with spectacular waterways, impressive trails and is popular amongst hikers looking for a much gentler route.
2. Sangre de Cristo
Translated to “Blood of Christ,” the Sangre de Cristo Range is located in the southern area of the Rocky Mountains. Stretching across both Colorado and New Mexico, this range peaks at 14,351 feet at it’s very own Blanca Peak. Sangre de Cristo is typically known for having three sections, the northern, central and southern ranges. Each section offers its own unique style, ranging from areas of mountainous peaks to stunning sand dunes. Visitors often love exploring the range year round whether they are hiking, climbing or just traveling along the mountains.
3. Mosquito Range
If you’re interested in a range that is decently remote, the Mosquito Range may just be exactly what you’re looking for. This serene landscape spans 40-miles north-to-south, and is just right for those who love to climb and hike. Though the region does have very active areas with a number of people looking to view its beauty, it is easy to find your own personal adventures. Originally home to mining towns, you can enjoy exploring its abandoned mine shacks and other historical characteristics.
4. San Juan Mountains
One of the toughest and roughest ranges to see lies in the San Juan Mountains. Perfect for a great outdoor adventure, the range peaks at over 14,000 feet and is an ideal destination for those who love to hike. The Sneffels Highline, Wasatch Trail, Lizard Head and Wetterhorn Basin are just a few of the trails featured along the 10,000 square miles of the San Juan Mountains. These trails feature lovely meadows, lake views, waterfalls, wildflowers and more.
