Mike O’Keefe: Tell us about your hometown a bit. Where did you grow up in South Florida?

Taylor Colson: I grew up in Boca Raton, Florida. It’s kind of a small town. We pretty much know everyone around here and it’s cool. There’s a lot to do. A lot of really nice people. My whole family’s here, so I like it a lot.

MO: That’s great. My parents actually have a condo in Pompano Beach, that’s right by there.

TC: Oh, yeah. Yeah, that’s not too far from me.

MO: What would you suggest to a first-time visitor to do and see in Boca?

TC: I don’t know in Boca, maybe go to Lion Country Safari, which is not too far from me. That’s if you like that kind of a tourist thing to do. Definitely go to the beach. The beach is my favorite place.

MO: Was being involved in music something you always wanted to do, or was it an evolutionary process?

TC: I definitely have known from a very young age that I’ve always wanted to do music. When I was five, I actually was put into an acting. My mom put me in an acting class because I was really, really shy and they kind of figured out I could sing. That was when I did my first performance in front of people, and from then on I kind of knew what I wanted to do. Then, in high school I started taking it more seriously and I knew wanted to make a career out of it.

MO: I think it’s great that when you find what you want to do and you just know right from the start. So great. Describe your excitement of releasing your new video, “You Want It”.

TC: I’m so excited! I’ve been working on my own EP for a really long time. I feel like the past year, I’ve really been perfecting everything and kind of playing around with what I want my sound to be and all of that. I’m excited that I’m finally getting to sharing my music with everyone. I really feel like this single is going to set the tone to the EP. I’m really excited that that’s finally out.

MO: How does music and travel fit together?

TC: I mean you’re always going to have to travel with music. If you’re going on tour, doing interviews and what not, you get to go and meet people that look up to you, your fans, all of that. You’re getting to see the world too. I think it’s a really cool thing that you get to travel in the music industry.

MO: Yeah, I love it. Going to so many different places, you get to see how every place is different and is home to different people. It’s one of the best things for me. If you had the choice to record music or perform in any destination in the world, where would you choose and why?

TC: Oh, I would say that I would want to go anywhere that’s not in the United States, just because I actually have never been out of the [country]. I feel the need to roam, go somewhere that I haven’t been and do what I love.

MO: What’s your favorite part about experiencing a new culture?

TC: I think it’s just cool to see how different people live, because every place is so different. It’s cool to see how other people do things and get by. It’s also cool to get out of your shell and learn.

MO: Exactly! I love learning and that’s something that you always remember, so that’s great.

TC: I love it!

MO: Lastly, what’s next? Do you have any shows, performances or trips coming up soon?

TC: I do. I actually just opened for B.O.B. in Miami. I was really excited for that. I performed my new single there also. Just really excited for the future!
